DTH Bit Usage Guidelines
- Select drill bits according to rock conditions (hardness, corrosion) and drill type (high wind pressure, low wind pressure). Different forms of alloy and cloth teeth are suitable for drilling different rocks
- When installing the drill bit, gently insert the bit into the drill bit sleeve of the impactor. Do not force collision to avoid damaging the drill bit
- Ensure sufficient air pressure on the drilling rig during rock drilling process
- Check compressed air system for intermittent work and ensure no rock slag in the hole during drilling
- If metal objects fall into the hole, remove immediately with magnet or other methods to avoid damaging the bit
- Monitor hole size when replacing drill bits. If bit diameter is worn but hole not completed, avoid using new bits to prevent sticking. Complete operation with worn bits of approximately same diameter
Prevention of Drilling Hole Collapse
Preventive measures for hole collapse should meet two conditions: mud liquid column pressure = technological pore pressure; minimize water infiltration into rock and soil or water seepage around hole wall.
Prevention for Geological Factors
- Increase mud density and mud liquid column pressure to balance formation pressure
- Use larger ratio of mud to plastic to protect the hole
Prevention for Physical Factors
- Start pump gradually and maintain constant tension on drill pipe to avoid sudden pressure increases and violent impact on hole wall
- Design drilling track and reaming procedures according to underground obstacle distribution to avoid excessive curvature and rotary extrusion on hole wall
- Control mud density and rheological properties to maintain adequate liquid column pressure and low mud return velocity
